Over Overworld

The following post is about SD Gundam G Generation Overworld and it’s predecessor World for the PSP.

Getting kinda over Overworld. Sure, ranged characters no longer do way less damage compared to melee-based characters, but multi-lock got nerfed and multi-hit attacks got removed causing some seriously weird overlap in unit attacks which in most cases, majorly nerfed units (like Phoenix Gundam). Some units have more streamlined attacks and are better units for it, but in cases like the GNX and the Destiny Gundam their sprites now carry weapons they don’t use. It bugs me. On top of that there is nearly a blanket removal of alternate modes like TRANS-AM or MEPE, with the only survivors being the Unicorn/Banshee NT-D mode because thei series is the most recent. Lots of units lost their transformation ability, which hasn’t bothered me yet. Gundam AGE was hyped to be in the game, yet all the units are solely from the first generation and they all kind of suck.

On top of this, the GN missiles and similar high particle attacks still lag my PSP. Boo. Especially the 00 movie mechs whose sole purpose is to out-particle the TV series.

Yet, I still play this game because there is better character creation and ranged-based characters no longer suck. To explain, in World characters at Super High Tension could get 4x bonus damage with melee attacks, while ranged attacks got stuck at 1.5x regular crit no matter what. Now it’s about 3x for both which is much better because no longer can a single unit go Infinite Move/Unlimited Energy/Consumable part that gives max tension and win a map in one player turn. Well, Turn A can still do it because Moonlight Butterfly. But at least there’s a reason to have good ranged units now.

The upside about Overworld compared to World is instead of one campaign with a hard mode, there are three smaller campaigns with hard mode. Overworld has more total unique missions so that’s nice. And there are some nice new units to play with. It’s not all bad. Which is why I’m still playing it I suppose.

It is both new AND cool. And for some reason the legs are animated separately to the rest of the robot.

 

Introspective Murder Simulators

Yahtzee made a video today about Modern Warfare: Warfighter about how it’s a bad game that hand-holds you through its single player and will often do things for you if you take too long. Although, this isn’t surprising since the Modern Shooter genre has done this before; this video made 2 years ago shows Black Ops players not having to even fire a weapon for the level to finish itself. Is this it? That single player is an admitted waste of time; please give us your (subscription) money and get back on the multiplayer servers?

His video also points out that Spec Ops: The Line kind of accused the Modern Shooter generation of blindly killing everyone and everything until they felt like a hero. Are you feeling  like a mass murderer yet? No? Welcome to the loony bin, you’re a psychopath. Read more…

One exam done. I think my nails are shorter.

Anywho, it hasn’t been long since Centaur arrived but rebalancing has already begun with 6.76c!

* Stampede cooldown increased from 65 to 120/90/60
* Stampede duration rescaled from 3/4/5 to 3.75
* Stampede damage slightly reworked from 100/150/200 + 2x str to 0 + 1/2/3x str (no base damage)
* Stampede mancost increased from 50 to 80
* Stampede AoE reduced from 120 to 105
* Drow’s base armor decreased by 2
* Marksmanship focus AoE increased from 375 to 400
* Last Word manacost from 100 to 115
* Living Armor cooldown and duration decreased from from 20 to 15
* Living Armor manacost decreased 30/35/40/45 to 25

Important thing to note is that Centaur is not being added to Captain’s Mode, so basically being kept out of the pro competition games until his mere presence doesn’t swing the game heavily in either team’s favour.

Saw the Iron Man 3 trailer yesterday. Seems cool. No idea what’s going on but Twitter tells me The Mandarin is the villain and he’s Iron Man’s nemesis or something so it should be good right? I mean, The Dark Knight had the Joker in it and it was amazing.

Finally got some of the 00 movie units in SD Gundam Overworld, and am sharply reminded that this is a sequel to a Wii port with the same engine when the GN missile spam makes my PSP lag. Too many particle effects!

Some Golden Keys for Borderlands 2 were handed out this weekend, so I spent mine.

For the love of.. why do half my keys open useless grenades?

6 keys – 1 E-Tech Shotgun which is meh but at least Fire damage, 3 chests containing mostly mod-less grenades and the last two had pistols.

(“Hey wait a minute!” you cried out as you saw all the downward red arrows on my equipped grenade, to which I say my equipped grenade is Homing Sticky Slag Transfusion and will only be replaced by a more effective version of the same mods.)

So, knowing my luck couldn’t get any worse, I spent 5 million on the slots.

Running two machines at once for twice the loss.

Probably not going to play this game for a while now.

Game of the Year

It’s been the month for deciding Game of the Year by major (and minor) gaming and associated publication across magazines and the web. The award intends to show that the recipient is the best gaming had to offer and should go down in history as the crowing achievement for that year of releases. The winner then goes on to re-release a “Game of the Year Edition” to show off to the rest of the world just how good it was.

And then you go to the place where you buy video games (I use a retail store, others use internet sites, it doesn’t matter) and you might notice that there is more than one game boasting a GotY Edition.

Simple answer: as you you’re no doubt aware, there are MANY gaming publications. And all of them, to show some degree of professionalism, are offering their own version of the award. All awarded through different criteria, a different panel of judges, a different mechanic of choosing the winner.

In 2009, Uncharted 2 won over 100 awards related to Game of the Year. That’s as many as ten tens.

And that’s terrible.

Project EX2-Y1: Part 1

I have been stuck on chapter 3 for a while now. While I was stuck, I thought of a new idea for a narrative.

Then while thinking about that idea, another came to me. This is that idea.

The more I think about it, the less I want to /just/ write it. I want pictures at the very least. So I thought about it some more, and decided that making it into a cartoon or comic is too far ahead of my skill level.

So I’m going to attempt to turn it into a Visual Novel (Or Sound Novel, there will be no voice acting).

Which is a huge project for me to be thinking about really, amongst trying to regularly update my comic and story that I was originally stuck on. But I will press on.

 

THE GOAL: To turn the story’s prologue into a working VN.

This is only a test. If I don’t like the format, I’ll can it. Still, a lot of work to do. I need to:

 

1. Find a game engine I can work with. (Atm, would prefer not starting from scratch, but still need to find one that will do what I want.)

2. Write the prologue.

3. Draw the characters/backgrounds/objects etc

4. Make appropriate BGM. (Alternatively, ask for help with this.)

5. Tie it all together.

 

It looks to be quite a project.

(The number is not my nth project. It is a number that makes sense to me and the story.)
