My Work Sucks, And So Do I

November 27, 2010 2 comments

It’s been a long time since I published anything. Anywhere.

By Waters Deep: Abandoned

Last Post: August 20

That is 3 months+ ago. Originally, I had expected to be leaving my computer for a while starting September, and I dropped the publishing of the story. I felt that it would set an unreasonable deadline for my work, and a long hiatus. Long Story short, I didn’t leave (and you got to see me at Geddon). I have no current drive to pick up where I left off.

Let’s Play Mafia: Postponed

Last Post: September 16

There is a clear problem here. I have stopped making comics because, while I do find it a little challenging, it’s also frustrating to create.

No, it’s totally worth the smiles you all get from them.

But unfortunately, mafia as you know has died. Nobody posts. When the comics were being made, they were pop culture references. Making more right now feels a little like nostalgia.

Ultimately, I would post more if people were playing. (wink wink, nudge nudge?).

There’s several projects in the middle here which have been postponed for a variety of reasons, but none were ever published anywhere. Some have been ditched. Some have been put on a little “to-do” list, and others simply wait for me to gain skills in a medium not called novelization.

Project EX2-Y1: Active

Last Post: October 28

Haven’t heard from this one for a while (but there will be a new post soon) because world-building is fun.

This is my favourite part of the process, the one where you choose a small set of ideas, and they blossom like a growing plant to all these other things that just make sense to include. And then I find that they start touching all the other ideas I started with.

The world is looking very good right now.

Except for one thing. Which you will hear about soon. Promise.

On a side note, I enjoy Dnd. Nearly positive the rest of the group don’t really enjoy me being there. It feels like all those sports clubs I joined while in college (but outside of the school, obviously) where everyone else in the team knew each other, and I am always the blasted spare wheel.

I’m reaching the point where every group I join doesn’t speak the same language as me.

Campaign End

We saved the multi-verse yesterday. It was epic.

We very nearly didn’t.

We used up all our adventure points to re-roll our encounter with the final boss, which was pretty disastrous. Second attempt half our party didn’t die before we hit the bugger (and he was killed in a single round by our tank).

After defeating the boss, everyone teamed up to follow the steps to disable the machine that would destroy all the alternate reality’s except the goblin plane.

Then the knife we needed shattered. Cue gasps and swearing. Long story short we (luckily) worked around that problem and destroyed the machine.

Then we cheesed it back to the closing portal to our  plane. We got through the portal from the goblin plane back to our own, only the rogue was off on his own trying to run down the mountain to get through (we took the magic carpet and passed him).

The tank blocked the portal and trapped the rogue on the other side after overpowering the rogue’s bull-rush attempt. But at the least the rogue kept the tank’s knives (a common source of dispute and infighting between them). Good times.

After looking at the encounters in the campaign…. I hate my character.

1st fight – Landed 100ft from fight, then stunned, then retreated from explosion.

2nd – Attacked 3 times for a total of about 20 damage.

3rd  – Spend the whole fight losing a grapple with a Cloaker (then won the grapple and someone else finished it off).

4th – Attacked an illusion, then was paralyzed the whole fight.

My luck. What. I’m rolling a fighter for the next campaign.

Dungeons and Dragons

I didn’t go to my brother’s prizegiving. On the upside, it turns out the certificate we got told he was winning was actually a trophy and a $500 prize. Nice.

I was at a DnD group instead. Nice people. I’m more-or-less an idiot at the game so far, but they have had patience with my inane suggestions so far.

I’ve joined the end of a campaign, which makes me pretty weak compared to the party. I expected that, but what is bugging me a little is putting all my feats and skills into mounted combat, and the final dungeon is inside a tower. I cannot summon my horse and ride indoors XD

With the campaign finishing shortly, can start on more even footing with the others next time (and for the love of whatever god, not be Lawful Good).

DnD has replaced mafia as brain food. Lol.
